Teens and Their Faith

Today many teens are not responding to the truth we teach as they once did. YTN has spent significant time working to understand why the truth is not impacting the lives of teens today. Our research has found that many teens carry a sense of failure for a single or a series of things that they have kept hidden from parents and leaders weighing heavily upon their hearts and identity as believers. This is complicated as they are continually being taught more about the word, resulting in an increasingly impossible gap between who they are and what they should be. Based upon these findings, YTN has developed and tested a series called Reboot.

Reboot is a series that attacks both the individual and community issues that youth struggle with as they transition from being a child to a teen in terms of their faith. Their youthful energy and idealism works against them in this transition, as they believe they need to take on all they know today. Given the amount they know it can become hopeless and that hopelessness translates to numbness to the truth and often the Lord.

This four-day retreat covers the central issues that confuse and discourage the hearts of our teens related to their faith in a open dialogue, discussion and teaching format. Each session approaches the students through their own experiences and stories helping them internalize it in a more real and experiential fashion. The sessions include:

  • The Impact of Fear
  • The Weight of Expectations
  • The Power of Love
  • The Development of your Heart
  • Follow Who???
  • Casting off Your Burdens
  • Walking into the Light

The retreat works with groups of teens from different ministries or it can be crafted to help students address challenging issues within the culture of their youth ministry. It leads them towards making a commitment to one another to love and care for each other addressing the dual life issues so prevalent in our youth ministries today.
